Suvi Tuomarmäki is a maritime professional and has been involved with the m/s Summersea since childhood.
“The vessel was brought to Hanko traffic in 2002 by my late father, Jouko Tuomarmäki. Since then, Summersea has been for many tourists the gateway to Bengtskär Lighthouse and the open archipelago,” Tuomarmäki says.
“The passenger vessel m/s Summersea is open-sea certified, with a capacity of 148 passengers. It primarily operates from Hanko to Bengtskär Lighthouse. Additionally, we organize charter cruises for private and corporate clients to destinations such as Örö, Kasnäs, and Ekenäs. Bengtskär is the tallest lighthouse in the Nordic countries – 52 meters above sea level. The journey there is a highlight of summer for many. Seeing the lighthouse on the horizon is always a breathtaking moment,” explains Suvi Tuomarmäki.
After 2023, m/s Summersea moved to new ownership when shipowner Janne Lehto (JaLe Line Oy) purchased the vessel, ensuring continued operation on the familiar route. The ship’s captain is experienced mariner Oula Heikkilä, who has been involved with the vessel since a young age. Suvi Tuomarmäki continues prominently as JaLe Lines’ operational director.
“All our trips are conducted safely and professionally. The ship’s crew takes care of the passengers, and every route is planned according to prevailing weather and conditions. At sea, one must be humble – it can never be fully controlled,” Tuomarmäki reminds. Due to the current geopolitical situation, cruises to Russarö Lighthouse are unfortunately not offered at this time, as the island is under the control of the Finnish Defence Forces. Visits are only possible with a special permit.
