Hanko was leased to the Soviet Union for 30 years as a naval base at the end of the Winter War, according to the Moscow Peace Treaty signed on 13th March 1940. However, the lease period was shortened to less than two years. During the tour, you will hear about the handover of Hanko, life at the naval base, the defense positions, and the Hanko Front during the Continuation War. We will also take a short walk along a trail to explore structures still visible in nature, such as the railway gun firing platform.
